Welcome to James Built Saddlery
JAMES BUILT SADDLERY is a family business owned and operated by Miriam and Randy James. We have been creating a variety of products out of leather, fur and hide for 23 years. We started with slippers, mitts, mukluks and fur hats and, over the years, have supplied several retail stores with slippers and fur hats. We still manufacture the slippers and mitts and only do fur hats on a custom basis if the customer provides their own fur. We have worked with rabbit, fox, mink, coyote, raccoon, wolf, bear, skunk, ostrich, emu, beaver tail, stingray, pigskin, lambskin, wild boar and, of course, cowhide. Contrary to popular belief, skunks do have lovely fur!
Our line has expanded over the years to include western saddles, all kinds of tack and training aids, harness from miniature horses to draft, dress jackets, hunting jackets, fringed jackets, deer hide and buffalo hide gloves, decorator cushions, belts, "Goin' Places" ladies' purses, travel bags, briefcases, wallets, suspenders and various articles for the avid motorcycle enthusiast; all of which we do on a custom basis.
We carry samples of most items in our store for sale, but do everything on a custom basis. We do repairs on anything leather and some things that are not! We have three stores in Southern Alberta, Jones Boys in Red Deer and Ponoka, and The Mill Store in Okotoks, which carry our Trail Boss line of headstalls and reins.
In the last ten years, our leather and manufacturing expertise has expanded to the oilfield and industrial sector, where we have manufactured harnesses for detonator cylinders, harnesses for propane tanks, radiation detector cases, mitts for pipeline welders, aprons for glass workers and welders.
Some other things we carry in our retail location, which is at 5020 - 48 Avenue, Tofield, Alberta, Canada, are:
Canadian made Brahma Boots
Fox Fire/Down Under Oilskin Jackets and Rain Coats
Bailey Felt Hats
Western Southland Straw and Palm Hats
Weaver Nylon Halters and various other tack
Montana Silversmiths Jewellery
and Fiebings Leather conditioners and cleaners, Lexol leather conditioner, Bick More Bick 4 leather conditioner, Ray Holes Saddle Butter and various others.
We like to think of ourselves as leather experts--if you need something out of leather, there's a good chance we have done it at least once, stock it, or would be game to try it again!

We are very passionate about leather, the different tannages, the look, the feel and the enduring qualities.
We will never compromise great quality and durability in our products, and feel we offer that great quality for a fair price.
